George M. Moir – Lantern Slides
11/10/2012 – In 1925 George M. Moir, a keen mountaineer and alpine enthusiast published his ‘Guide Book to the Tourist Routes of the Great Southern Lakes and Fiords of Western Otago’. This publication was the forerunner of a series of practical books for trampers, all named ‘Moir’s Guide Book’ after the first publications author.
This gallery depicts a group of 35 images photographed on one of Moir’s trips into the Southern Lakes region with the renown Wellington science teacher and amateur astronomer Algernon Charles (A.C) Gifford. Many of these Lantern Slides kindly supplied by ‘Portobello Antiques’ are numbered and labelled and are thought to have been used for public speaking engagements by Moir. access images
