Additional info: This letter was written by Henry Birley from Lower Shotover where he boarded with the Sabine family while he attended Lower Shotover School. It was sent to his parents (Sarah & Joseph Birley) at the Mount Earnslaw Hotel, Glenorchy. This letter is unique in that it pre-dates most previous thought on the Lower Shotover School’s earliest beginnings. Henry refers to Anna (Mr & Mrs Sabines daughter) and also his two sisters (Isabel & Constance) back in Glenorchy.
