Additional info: Henry Birley is recorded as being the first white child born at the Head of the Lake (22 July 1863). The exact details of his birth father are rather elusive but he was a Mr Hartley. Henry’s mother was Sarah Ann Hartley (nee Plummer) of the Mount Earnslaw Hotel, Glenorchy . . . . refer to other HOL Portraits.
